《南史·张融传》:“丈夫当删诗、书,制礼乐,何至因循寄人篱下?” 原指写诗作文因袭他人。后转指在别人的势力庇护之下或依附别人过活。寄:依附。篱:篱笆。
寄人篱下 [jì rén lí xià]
1. be under sb. else's roof -- to depend on [rely on] other people for a living; be dependent on sb. for a living; depend on sb. for a living; find shelter under sb.'s roof; live as a parasite on sb.; live under another's roof; live [be] under sb.'s thumb; live under subjugation指借居他人门下。也喻指依附别人。
